Mantech Laser Service near Ewell, on a 1290 100 watt – The Epsom and Ewell High School
A visit to our customer, Epsom & Ewell High School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine was in need of a service and some parts needed replacing. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
Upon arrival at Epsom & Ewell High School the Mantech machine was visually inspected. The laser machine was still situated in the classroom where the standard temperature was notably warm, this is important as the cooling circuit will struggle to maintain the correct temperature of the machine, if the ambient temperature is high especially if the Mantech supplied CW 3000 is underpowered for the 100watt laser tube as it has no active refrigerant and relies on the said ambient temperature
The HMI display on the front of the machine was still in the damaged state but was not affecting the running of he machine. It was again advised as a potential to replace the unit to avoid any downtime.
The Mantech supplied Bofa AD 500 was still with the machine and was still struggling to remove the smoke from the chamber. The filters were inspected and found to be coming upto to 2 years old. It was again recommended to consider the Bofa AD 1000 as this would be able to clear the smoke and would not be required to run on as higher flow rate, therefore improving filter life expectancy.

The following laser service items were also checked as part of the visit and presented no issues or concerns: –
- Inspect and Clean All Mirrors
- Inspect and Clean Main Focusing Lens
- Inspected, cleaned and oiled linear bearings
- Electronics Inspection – Magnetic safety interlock used for main lid – advised this is not safe
- Cleaned Nozzle and Red Pointer
- Checked Beam Alignment
- Inspected and tested Safety Interlocks
- Inspected and tested all sensors
- Drained, flushed and refilled the chiller system
The laser power was then tested at the output of the laser head. The laser power was shown to be 86.3w @99% power. Due to the age of the laser tube, and it’s reduction in power. The customer was advised to budget for a tube replacement at the next service.

Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
