Lightblade Service near Brighton, on a 6090 80 watt Thinklaser laser Machine – Brighton School for Girls

A visit to a new customer, Brighton Schjool for Girls was required as the customer had requested an annual service be conducted on their machine. The laser service was conducted by our highly experience laser service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –

Thinklaser Lightblade Machine 6090 80 watt

Upon arrival at Brighton Schjool for Girls the laser machine was visually inspected. The machine was in good condition, however upon looking beneath the working table it was noted that there was a significant amount of debris. This area under the laser bed, is vitally important to keep free of debris, as when the laser cuts through the material, the laser beam continues to the base of the machine. The laser is defocused by this point, however depending on laser parameters, it could till present a fire hazard.

When reinstating the main focusing lens, it was noted that the nozzle was dirty and the autofocus pen was missing the nib and the spring, so if used wouldn’t have functioned, possibly causing damage to the machine. The spring was found at the rear of the machine and a new nib was fitted from the spare unit in the supplied tool kit, the laser nozzle was fully cleaned.

Upon checking the electrical aspects of the machine, it was also noted that the customer was connecting their PC directly to the controller. The customer informed us that the reason for this was that the ‘DataLine Interface’ wasn’t working. This was tested and was found to be working, although the metal housing of the connect did appear to be damaged and misshapen. The connector was adjusted and reconnected to the machine. All appeared to be working. Both systems were left in place as a choice for the customer to make in future runnings of the machine.

The rest of the service was completed as per the below:-

  • Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
  • Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Leveling
  • Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
  • Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials

The extraction unit that had been supplied with the unit was an Bofa AD 500 unit. The filters were inspected and the installation date was February 2022. The filters were not close to being full and there was no smells coming from the rear of the machine. This shows that the main reason that we suggest going for a larger extraction unit than other companies specify, as you can run the unit at a lower flow rate and not only achieve better extraction but significantly longer filter life. Therefore saving money in the long run.
