Laser Service near Northampton, Alpha CNC ATS 1390 – 100 watt – ProBox Systems Ltd
A visit to a new customer, ProBox Systems Ltd was required as the customer had requested a service of their Chinese flatbed laser cutting machine, which we would normally recommend for all our customers. The laser service was conducted by our highly experience laser machine service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –

Upon arrival at ProBox Systems Ltd, the machine was visually inspected. It was immediately noted that there was no safety lnterlock on the main door lid. This meant that the laser could be operated with door open and the laser emitting without the protection of the main lid. This was brought to the attention of the customer.
Continuing the inspection of the machine it was also noted that on startup the gantry system failed to home, This would result in the machine not being able to recognise the machine limits and size and therefore collided on both the X and Y axis with the machine chassis. The ‘Auto Home’ feature for both axis were enabled within the software and the homing routine tested on request, reset and startup. All homed successfully.
It was also noted that the dataline USB interface lead was missing from the machine.
Before any inspections, cleaning or alignment was carried out on the machine, the laser power was tested from the exit aperture of the nozzle. It was shown to be reading 52w @25mA, 80% power. The power was tested with the nozzle removed. It was shown to be reading 85w @25mA 80% power. This pointed to an issue with either the alignment through the nozzle or an issue with the focusing lens.
Then focusing lens was inspected and found the be heavily contaminated and damaged/cracked in the centre.
The lens was replaced with a new 2.5″ lens. The laser service was then started on all aspects of the machine including: –
- Inspected and Cleaned all mirrors.
- Inspected and Cleaned the laser nozzle and Red Diode Pointer
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Checked all Belts and Pulleys for wear and tension
- Check the Bed Level – Slightly adjusted the right side as it was several mm
- Electronics Inspection
- Checked field calibration and step length on X & Y axis
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
A full laser alignment was carried out on the machine and the laser power was remeasured from the exit aperture of the nozzle. The laser power was shown to measure 87w @25mA 80%. The focal height was checked and set to 6.5mm from the nozzle.
The chiller unit was drained, flushed and refilled with 7 litres of distilled water and the chillers fans and filters were cleaned.
The customer had requested that the machine be upgraded to Lightburn, so this was installed onto the customers machine and training was supplied to the operator as to the function of the Lightburn software.
After the laser machine service was concluded, the machine was tested by running multiple test to verify functionality and performance. The customer was happy with the results of the service.
