Laser Service near Bedford, on a GCC Spirit 40 watt Laser Machine – Mark Rutherford School
A visit to a new customer, Mark Rutherford School was required as the customer was having issue with the laser machine not starting the projects, as the extraction unit was not starting. They had also requested a health check be carried out on the GCC machine. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –
Upon arrival at Mark Rutherford School the machine was visually inspected. Other than the laser machine not starting the unit seemed to be in good working order.
The cable running from the GCC Spirit to the extraction unit was checked and found to be faulty. It was replaced with a new unit and all the functions checked. All seemed to be working as expected.
The full inspection of the machine could then be carried out. All mirrors were checked and cleaned. Mirror 1 was contaminated and may need to be replaced in the near future. The main focusing lens was also checked and cleaned.
The service items below were carried out: –
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The laser source was inspected and the fans and filters cleaned. The laser power was measured at the exit aperture of the laser nozzle and was shown to be measuring 20.1w @100% power. The power of the unit had dropped since it was last measured. It was advised that either a Re-gas or a new tube would be required in the near future.
The extraction unit was also inspected and there was a strong smell coming from the exhaust valve, demonstrating that the filters active carbon had been depleted. The filters were checked and found to be dated 2015. These would definitely need to be replaced.
Several of the customer jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function and the customer was happy with the results produced.
