Laser Repair near Surbiton – Boxford 6090 80W – Not cutting through material – Southborough High School
The visit to our customer Southborough High School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine was not cutting through material and there was a strange noise coming from their Boxford 6090 80 watt flatbed laser marker. This was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –

The engineer arrived on site and started the investigation into the faulty machine. The laser was first test fired to establish where the noise was coming from. The sound was identified as coming from the laser power supply unit (PSU). This was further investigated and was deemed to be needed to be replaced.
After the PSU was replaced the noise had disappeared. Before trialing the cutting capabilities of the Boxford 6090 machine. the machine was given a quick service. As the last service was done in March 2024. The following items were carried out without issue.
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Mirror Inspection & Clean
- Full Laser Alignment Check – Adjusted slightly
- Laser Tube Health Check
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The focusing lens was inspected and cleaned, however there was a mark that could not be removed. As can be seen from the picture, it was right in the middle of the optic, therefore would have an impact on the quality of the beam and the power output.
The laser power was checked at the output of the nozzle using the damaged lens and was shown to be outputting 70 watts @75%. After the replacement 2.5 inch lens was fitted and the laser power was tested again. The power measurement was now 82 watts @75% power.
The system was given a full bill of health and several jobs were run on the machine to test. All where upto a good standard.
