Laser Machine Upgrade near Burgess Hill, on a HPC 1290 LaserScript Machine – Pretty Miniatures
For this customer, they had originally contacted us to enquire as to whether a HPC LaserScript 1290 machine for sale on EBAY, was a good deal and if we could check it over for functionality and to quote for upgrading the machine, if they won the bid. The customer in question was Pretty Miniatures. In this case the customer did win the bid and they delivered the unit to our facility in Redhill.
As per the customers original request we tested the unit for functionality and there were discussions about what upgrade the customer required and want was possible and or recommended to upgrade or what was not necessarily required. This laser machine upgrade was carried out by our highly experience service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’.
The machine was first given a thorough deep clean as years of use by what can be determined being cutting of MDF had left significant residue in and around the machines internals.

From the discussions with the customer, the following items were upgraded with the following components: –
Ruida 6445 Controller, HMI and Lightburn
The old Leetro controller in this unit in an outdated unit and has limited support for spare parts and can not run with the latest software packages out there today.

So it was advised that the HMI and the controller be upgraded to a more modern Ruida 6445 controller and HMI. This controller can run with the latest version of Lighburn, which was installed and supplied to the customer through our distribution agreement with Lightburn.

RECI W2 80 Watt Laser Tube and Mounting brackets, 100 watt laser PSU
As part of the upgrade it was advised that the condition of the laser tube was unknown as well as the laser PSU that was feeding it. These were both replaced with new stock and the associated mounting brackets were utilised to mount them. Whilst installing the new RECI W2 80 Watt laser, it was noted that the pipework to the cooler pump were in need of replacement. These were replaced and a new CW5200 chiller was installed as a proper chiller unit as opposed to the standard HPC bucket and water pump.

As with all new tube installation a full and comprehensive alignment procedure was carried out. It was discovered that some of the mirrors were contaminated and were not cleanable and so were replaced with our standard molybdenum mirrors.
For better control of the laser energy and to prevent the laser tube from being overdriven, it was advised that a milliammeter be installed. The customer was in agreement with us and so this was installed above the new Ruida controller for ease of reading.
Other items that were deemed a good idea and necessary to replace were all the belts on the X and Y gantries, these were installed with new belts, tensioned and the field scale calibration was tested and corrected for squareness and scalability.

When the system was fully upgraded and the testing of the unit was started it was noted that the main door sensor was broken and was needed to be replaced. This was replaced with new, and as part of our standard HMI upgrade, the wiring of this main door sensor and the main chiller alarm function were wired into the new Ruida controller to provide feedback to the customer as to what if any alarm functions prevent the machine from running a full production cycle. This prevents damage and scrap parts being produced in case of anyone of the alarm functions.
The customer returned to pick up their new upgraded machine, a full training schedule was prepared and implemented so the customer was upto speed on all the new functions of their upgraded machine.

Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
