Laser Machine Service near Warlingham, on a Red Sail 1290 100 watt machine – Warlingham High School

A visit to a new customer, Warlingham High School as the customer had informed us that their Red Sail laser machine was in need of servicing. The laser service of the machines was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –

Red Sail – 1290 100 watt

Upon arrival at Warlingham High School the Red Sail laser was visually inspected. The unit was badly out of alignment. So the service was started with the optical path and the following issues were found and recitified: –

The mirrors were all inspected and mirror 3 was found to be badly contaminated, this was able to be cleaned. The main focusing lens was also checked and was found to be upside down. The beam was aligned in all four corners of the machines working area.

As the machine was being aligned it was noted that there was water coming from the CW3000 chiller unit. The external pipes were inspected but not leak could be found. The unit was opened up and the internals inspected. The leak was located on the internal aluminium piping. The issue was discussed with the customer, that it would be more economical to replace the chiller than it would be to try and repair or replace the aluminium piping. The leak was suppressed using self-amalgamating tape for the duration of the service and to allow the customer to continue to use the machine whilst a new unit was supplied.

The laser tube was cleaned and it was noticed that the air assist felt very weak. The air pump was sourced at the back of the unit, there was a coil of pneumatic piping of approximately 3 metres in length. This length of pipe would reduce the pressure and there the flow rate of the air assist. This pipe work was shortened which significantly improved the air from the exit of the nozzle.
