Laser Machine Service near Streatham, on a HPC 6090 LaserScript Machine – St Joseph’s College
A visit to our customer, St Joseph’s College was required as the customer was requiring a service on their aging laser machine. The Service was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
Upon arrival at the customers site, the HPC Laserscript machine was visually inspected. The ‘Y’ axis gantry belt was loose. This belt was tightened and all the other belts were checked. The laser alignment was checked and was found that it needed to be adjusted as it was not firing in all 4 corners. Fully aligned the beam.
The laser power was checked at the exit aperture to the laser nozzle. It was shown to be reading 29w @ 80% power. Cleaned all mirrors and the main focusing lens, was found to be badly contaminated. In this case the lens was able to be cleaned, but the customer was advised that it would be best practise to replace the lens.
The rest of the service was carried out as below: –
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The chiller unit was drained and cleaned, however there was still alot of sediment inside the chiller which was unable to be removed. This was mainly down to the design of the chiller unit, having a large transparent plastic lid on the top section of the chiller, which would allow lots of natural light in which would encourage bacteria to grow inside the chiller unit. The unit’s water was replaced with the customer own stock water.
After all the laser machine’s services were checked the laser was tested again at the laser aperture of the nozzle. It was now showing to be 66w @80%.
The unit was then entering it final tests, which would be test the machine by cutting some of the customer own jobs on test material. It was found that the extraction unit would not power on. So this would need to be investigated.
The power cable was initially checked and this was supplying the correct voltages. The extraction unit was opened to reveal the all the internals connections. It was found that there was a disconnected cable from the mains rocker switch to the mains inline filter. This spade connection was reconnected but the unit would still not power on.
The voltages were tested at the inline filter and no supply voltages were found, this pointed to the mains rocker switch being faulty. This was confirmed by testing the input and outputs of the rocker switch with a multimeter.
The rocker switch was removed from the system and investigated. It was found that the mains line feed leaver was broken and so a new rocker switch was required. This would require a return visit to fit, this was carried out 2 days later, after the switch had been delivered.
Once the second visit had taken place several jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function.. and St Joseph’s College was happy with the results. The customer was so happy with the service we supplied that they left us a ‘5-Star’ Google review!
