Laser Machine Service near Stanwell, on a 6090 60 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Thomas Knyvett College
A visit to a customer, Thomas Knyvett College was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that their HPC laser machine was in need of a service.. The laser service of the HPC machine was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –
HPC Laserscript – 6090 60 watt
Upon arrival at Thomas Knyvett College the HPC machine was visually inspected. The immediate issue that was found was that the buttons on the keypad for the controller were not overly responsive, especially on the laser head control. It was also noted that the beam alignment was quite a way out.
The beam was realigned and the service work commenced.
The first item that we normally check to give a base line for the health of the machine before we start the service is a laser power test from the exit aperture of the laser nozzle. This was measured and shown to be reading 72.5w @99 % power. Older HPC machines don’t have an ammeter to indicate the current supplied by the laser PSU, which means that sometimes it is easily possible to overdrive the laser tube and shorten it’s life span.
All the mirrors were inspected and cleaned. The mirrors were contaminated but they were cleanable.

The extractor grill at the back of the machine was found to be restricting the airflow, so this was cleaned and reattached.

The remaining items were completed with some only minor issues-
- Inspect and Clean Main Focusing Lens
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Inspect, Clean and tension belts
- Checked and cleaned laser tube
- Drained, flushed and refilled chiller with distilled water
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Inspected Interlocks and Chiller Alarms
- Inspected and checked electrics, sensors and switches
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
After these service items had been completed the laser power was measured again at the exit aperture of the nozzle and was shown to be reading 84.5w @99%.

Several of the customer jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function. Following the tests the customer was happy with the results produced. The customer was advised that due to the Leetro controller buttons being difficult to use, it may be wise to upgrade the controller at a near point in the future
Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
