Laser Machine Service near St Albans – Oaklands College GCC X252 80 watt
The visit to a new customer Oaklands College, was for a repair and service visit on their GCC X252 flatbed laser marking machine. We recommend to our customers that their laser machines get serviced once a year, to avoid any unnecessary downtime This was conducted by our highly experienced laser service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’, the laser service included: –
GCC X252 – 80watt
Upon arrival at Oaklands College the GCC laser machine was visually inspected. Prior to the site visit the customer had reported that water was leaking from the CW3000 chiller unit. So this was the investigated in the first instance. The floor immediately around the chiller unit had water residue, indicating that a leak had occurred. All pipes to and from the chiller were inspected. The securing screw on the water-in connection was found to be loose. The chiller still contained approximately half of it’s capacity of cooling water.
The chiller was powered on independently of the laser machine and water was observed leaking from the previous found loose connection of the ‘Water-In’. The chiller was switched off and this retainer screw removed. Beneath this there was found to be a small crack in the pipe and was deemed to be the source of the leak.

The damaged section of the pipe was removed and the pipe re-secured to the water inlet. The chiller unit was once again powered and re-checked for leaks. No leak was detected from the water inlet and no new leaks could be found. The chiller was topped up with customer supplied distilled water. The system was checked for air bubbles and any more subsequent leaks. All checks were completed with no air bubbles or further leaks detected.

A full service was then commenced on the GCC X252 machine. All mirrors were cleaned, mirror 2 was heavily contaminated but was successfully cleaned. The remaining service items were carried out without issue
- Inspect and Clean Focusing Lens
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The beam alignment was checked and the laser power measured from the exit aperture of the nozzle. The laser power was shown to be reading 93w @25mA 85% power.

The customer also had an BOFA AD Oracle extraction unit, the filters for this unit were checked. The main filter was dated June 2020 and the pre-filter was dated November 2023. Although during testing no errors or odours were present it was advised to the customer to replace the filters due to their age and the main filter due to the active carbon element being depleted.
