Laser Machine Service near Southend-on-Sea, Universal Laser System – Versa – Southend High School for Girls
A visit to a customer, Southend High School for Girls was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine was in need of a service. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –

Universal Laser Systems – Versa Laser
The mirrors and main focusing lens were inspected and found to be have been replaced or reseated within their assembly and were both being held in place with white tack. The main focusing 2″ lens was dirty and was attempted to be cleaned. It was found to that the lens could not be fully cleaned as residue had fallen onto the lens from the mirror 3 white tack being heated up and falling onto the lens.
The customer was advised that the whole mounting assembly needed to be replaced.
The remaining items that are carried out on a standard Universal Laser service were carried out as follows:-
- Inspected, cleaned and oiled linear bearings
- Inspected, cleaned all belts and pulleys
- Cleaned underneath the honeycomb bed
- Inspected Electronics Inspection
- Inspected and tested Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Inspected and tested all sensors
- Cleaned all fan filters, air intakes and the extractor grill
The beam alignment was checked and was found to be good. The laser source was checked for age of installation. The laser unit had been either re-gassed or replaced in 2018, meaning the laser unit was 7 years old, the laser unit was approximately in the middle of it’s MTTF credentials.
The laser power was measured from the exit of the laser nozzle and was shown to be 25w @100% power. This is normally for what is expected of this type of CO2 RF laser unit.
Nearing the end of the laser service the customer had informed the engineer that the auto-focus feature had not been working for several months. On further inspection, the feature had been found within the software setting had been disabled. This was re-enabled and was now operating normally.
Several of the customer jobs were run, all was now cutting ok, but the customer was still advised to replace the mirror 3 and main focusing lens mounting assembly.
