Laser Machine Service near Southampton, Thinklaser Lightblade 1490 DS 80 watt CO2 & 50 watt Fibre – Innov8 Engineering
A visit to a customer, Innov8 Engineering – The Innov8ors was required as the customer had requested their annual service, which we would recommend for all our customers, and to verify the machine functionality after a recent move. The laser service was conducted by our laser machine service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –
Thinklaser Lightblade 1490 DS (Dual Source)
Upon arrival at Innov8 Engineering – The Innov8ors new site, the machine was visually inspected. The customer had been in communications with us prior to the move to understand and learn the best methods and correct procedure for the decommissioning, moving and recommissioning of the machine The machine was in good condition. Prior to turning on the machine, the engineer checked all the external and internal connections for polarity and fit. All had been done correctly. The service could be started.
On a service with no known prior issues, it is normal practice to check the laser power from the nozzle, this was done on the Lightblade Dual Source on both laser nozzles. The following powers were measured. From the CO2 nozzle was 67w @25mA 86% and from the fibre nozzle was 30w @ 99%.
The mirror and both lens were checked and cleaned. There was a mark on the CO2 lens in the nozzle, this could not be removed by cleaning. So a new 2.5″ lens was installed. The customer mentioned that they had a 2″ lens in the tool kit, and was advised to install this lens as due to the nature of the materials and jobs that the customer was running on this machine, that this lens would give a better and finer cut/mark on their products.
The laser powers were remeasured after the beam alignment was checked and both nozzles were producing better results. The CO2 was measuring 85w @25mA 86% and the fibre was measuring 47w @99%.
The laser service was continued with the following items were carried out: –
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Checked all Belts and Pulleys
- Check the Bed Level – Slightly adjusted on this machine
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
When checking the data transfer to the machine from an external laptop or PC, it was found that the USB data line interface cable was faulty. This was replaced with new.
After the laser machine service was concluded, the machine was tested by running some of the customer jobs. The customer was happy with the results of the service and asked to be have some more training on the use of the fibre laser side of the machine. This was shown to the customer as to the best and correct methods, as on these Dual Source machines the output nozzles are a set distance apart. This is pre-installed into the machines program interface prior to dispatch. Following this the software needs to be told which laser you are wanting to use, by a selectable icon.
The last item that was checked as part of the laser service was the customers extraction unit. The customer has a Purex iFume 800i extraction unit, upon powering the unit, it was noted that there was a strong smell coming from the exhaust. The customer had already replaced the prefilter, but will need to replace the Main Hepa Filter aswell, as this is the filter that removes odours.
