Laser Machine Service near Romsey, on a 1290 80 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – The Romsey School
A visit to a customer, The Romsey School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine was in need of a service. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
Upon arrival at The Romsey School the machine was visually inspected. The laser machine was in visibly a good condition.
On further inspection several issues were found. The piston struts on the main, which hold the door open whilst changing over work pieces, was only just being held up. This is pertinent safety issue as if the door closes whilst a person is putting material into the machine, it could cause serious injury.
The laser power was first tested to establish a base mark for in what health the laser and optical path is in at the start of the service. The laser power was measured from the nozzle and was shown to be 50w @100% power.
To establish why the laser power was so low, for the input power being used, there are several areas to check. Firstly is the laser tube. On inspection of the laser tube the chilling water was found to be seriously contaminated with algae. This very evident inside the chiller reservoir. This was drained and flushed several times to clean the system as much as possible before being refilled with distilled water.
The next areas to check are the mirror and the focusing lens assembly. All the mirror were checked and cleaned. The focusing mirror was removed and inspected and was found to be missing it special coating. This was replaced with a new 2″ inch lens. The nozzle assembly and red pointer were also heavily contaminated and both were thoroughly cleaned.
The beam alignment was checked and only marginal realignment was required. The laser power was then remeasured at the laser nozzle and was shown to be 92w @75% power.
The following were also checked as part of the visit
- Inspected, cleaned and oiled linear bearings
- Inspected Electronics Inspection
- Inspected and tested Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Inspected and tested all sensors
- Cleaned the extractor grill
