Laser Machine Service near Reading, Thinklaser Lightblade’s 2 x 6090 80 watts – Gillette

A visit to a customer, Gillette® R&D Facility near Reading UK, was required as the customer had requested their annual service on their two lightblade machines, which we would recommend for all our customers. The laser service was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –

Upon arrival at Gillette® the first 6090 machine was visually inspected. The machine was visually in good condition.

The customer hadn’t reported any faults with the machine, so the service was carried out on their laser machine and it covered the below items: –

  • Mirrors and Len Inspection & Clean
  • Nozzle Inspection & Clean
  • Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
  • Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
  • Calibrate Bed Level – Adjusted front of bed slightly
  • Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
  • Electronics Inspection
  • Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test

After completing all the service items as above, the laser alignment was checked and adjusted and the power measured from the nozzle. The power was showing that the laser was producing 81.5w @26mA 66%. The service for this machine had now been completed.

The Bofa AD Oracle iQ extraction unit was inspected and was found that there was an error #64. This error means that there is a communications failure on the main PCB board. The main board would need to be replaced. The unit was still working, but the unit alarms and the main buttons flash red.

Thinklaser Lightblade 2nd 6090 80 watt

Gillette®‘s second 6090 machine was also visually inspected. This was also in good condition.

As per the other machine the laser service was conducted and the below was also carried out: –

  • Mirrors and Len Inspection & Clean
  • Nozzle Inspection & Clean
  • Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
  • Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
  • Calibrate Bed Level – Adjusted left side of bed slightly
  • Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
  • Electronics Inspection
  • Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test

The beam alignment was checked and was found to be slightly out from mirror 3 down into the nozzle housing. This was adjusted and the laser power measured, the power was shown to be 84.5w @26mA 94%.

This machine had an air assist solenoid valve retrofitted on the previous service visit. This was found to be now not working. The issue was located to be from the main controller. This replaced under the warranty served with the upgrade.

Also on this unit was an issue with the Lightburn camera. The unit was found to have a loose lens and when tightened would cause the camera to go out of focus. A new 150 degree camera was installed and test.
