A visit to a long term customer, HORIBA MIRA was required as the customer had requested their annual service, which we would recommend for all our customers. The laser service was conducted by our highly experience service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –

Upon arrival at HORIBA MIRA the machine was visually inspected. The machine had a lot of debris at the bottom of the bed and around the laser head due to the material that the machine was being used to process.
The Purex 800i extraction system was alarming when the unit was powered on. The customer had just replaced the pre-filter, but the main filter was over a year old. There was a faint smell from the rear exhaust port of the extractor indicatin that the filters’ active carbon maybe depleting. The laser was tested from the exit aperture of the laser nozzle, it was shown to be measuring 59w @60% 25mA power. The main service items that were then carried out: –
- Inspect and Clean All Mirrors and Main Focusing Lens
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Inspect and Hoovered out the laser chamber and bed area
- Inspect, Drain and Refill Chiller cooling circuit
- Electronics Inspection
- Check Bed Level
- Check the field scale calibration of both X and Y axes.
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The customer had said that the X gantry had made a grinding noise about a month ago, but it hadn’t done the same since then. The linear bearing were checked and no ‘play’ was found in the bearings or the housing. The linear bearing were cleaned and lubrication was reapplied.
The laser power was re-measured through the nozzle and was reading a power of 67.2w @ 25mA 60%.
