Laser Machine Service near Hungerford, 20w Xtool Minilase – Frank Green
A visit to our longstanding customer, Frank Green was requested as the customer had requested a laser service be conducted on their Minilase XL 20 w MOPA laser. The laser service was conducted by our expert service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’.
Xtool Minilase XL 20 watt MOPA
Upon arrival at Frank Green the Xtool laser machine was inspected. The outside of the machine looked to be in good condition. However due to the heavy use of the machine the internal chamber was heavily contaminated with dust and debris. This was looked as a first off, as any further service work could have risked contamination of optics etc.
The machine chassis, internal work area and surrounding surfaces were cleaned to remove accumulated dirt and debris. Particular attention was given to the processing area to improve operational cleaniness and to reduce the risk of contamination of optics or parts, possibly effecting machine performance and the customer finished products.

Following this thorough deep clean the optical system was inspected. The laser optics were inspected for condition and contamination but was clear. The F-theta lens was also inspected and required a clean, this was to ensure optimal performance and to maintain the beam focus and quality.
All standard checks we carried out on the machine including: –
- Checked Electronics, Switches, Sensors and E-stop
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Pneumatics Inspection
- Fan Filters Cleaned to improve air flow
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
During these standards checks it was an issue was identified with the main door function. As the main door did not close when pressing the close door button on the control panel. Diagnostic checks were carried out, including operational checks of the door closing function and associated systems. During the further investigation the fault was narrowed down to the pneumatic system which was controlling the door. It was proposed that the pressure switch controlling in which direction the door moved was malfunctioning, but further work would need to be carried to resolve the issue.

Recommendations were made to the customer about maintaining a regular cleaning regime of the work area, optical system and filters to ensure continued reliable operation and minimise contamination related issues.
The customer was informed about the door issue, but since the interlock circuitry was not effected and the operators and the engineer had devised a work around during their testing. They were happy to leave the system as is.
