Laser Machine Service near Holsworthy, on 2 x Thinklaser Lightblades – 1 x 6090 80W and 1 x 4060 80w – Coach & Wagon
The visit to our long time customer Coach & Wagon Works was due to the customer having requested their annual laser service on their Thinklaser Lightblade 4060 and 6090 80 watt flatbed laser machines, which we would recommend for all our customers. This service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser marker service visit includes: –
Upon arrival at Coach & Wagon Works the flatbed machine was visually inspected. The location was a small outdoor shed, the machines were a bit difficult to inspect to the space restrictions, but the engineer and customer managed to conduct the laser service with a little bit of ‘to me – to you’.
Thinklaser Lightblade 6090 80 watt
The Lightblade 6090 was the first laser machine to be serviced. All lens and mirrors were inspected and cleaned. When gaining access to the main focusing lens, the locking nut was which holds the lens and nozzle assembly was very stiff. When unscrewing this, the main tube connecting the whole focusing lens assembly was unscrewing first. The whole assembly was removed and the assembly was lubricated to enable ease of adjustment moving forward.
Once the nozzle assembly was reinstated the focusing lens was inspected. There was a small mark on the surface of the lens that was unable to be removed, however after having discussions with the customer about it and the mark not effecting the laser engraving or laser cutting it was decided to not replace the lens.
The remaining service items were carried out with little to no issue raised: –
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Bed Leveling
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Full Laser Alignment Check – Slight Adjustment required
- Laser Tube Health Check
The laser power was tested at the exit aperture to the laser nozzle. This was shown to be measuring 84.9w @25mA @ 65% power.
During final testing of the customer Lightblade 6090 machine, some cutting jobs were run on the machine. It was noted that the calibration was incorrect on the X-Axis. It was cutting 2mm undersize. This calibration is done by measuring what the machine is producing in relation to what you are requesting the laser machine to cut. The calibration of the X-axis was adjusted with the software and downloaded to the controller. Then some more of Coach & Wagon‘s jobs were run on the machine as a final test and the customer was happy with the outcome.
Thinklaser Lightblade 4060 80 watt
The Lightblade 4090 was the second laser machine to be serviced.
The service items were carried out with little to no issue raised: –
- Inspect and Clean all Mirrors and focusing Lens
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Full Laser Alignment Check – Slight Adjustment required
- Laser Tube Health Check
When it came to inspecting the laser machines working table. It was noted that on this machine the front of the bed was lower than the rear of the bed by approximately 1.5mm. This doesn’t sound like alot, but when it is relation to a focused spot coming from the laser nozzle, then this matter. As the focal point will shift in relation to the surface of the product being laser cut or laser engraved. This will have symptons, of laser engraving looking blurry or being burnt and the laser cutting may not pass all the way through the materials and cause more burning and poorer quality edges.
The bed was levelled by our laser engineer and the service work continued.
