Laser Machine Service near Harlow, on a 6090 80 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Burnt Mill Academy
A visit to a customer, Burnt Mill Academy was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine had been working perfectly normally, and then suddenly powered off and would not turn back on. The laser investigation and service of the HPC machine was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
HPC Laserscript – 6090 80 watt
Upon arrival at Burnt Mill Academy the machine was visually inspected. The customer had already checked the mains plug fuse and tried a different wall socket, but with no joy. It was noted that the customer had a fume extraction system of an old BOFA AD1000 extractor system being powered directly off one of the external sockets on the back of the laser machine. This was noted as the reason for the machine not powering on, as the extractor is rated at 12.8A, compared to a normal 3-pin wall socket of 13A.

The mains fused on the back of the machine was checked and was found to have blown and due to the large current draw on the socket, it had slightly melted the fuse holder. Both the fuse and the socket were replaced. The BOFA extractor connection was removed from the rear of the laser and plugged into it’s own wall socket.
The unit was then turned on and the laser machine started up as per usual expectation. The laser system could then have it’s regular service items carried out: –
- Inspected and Cleaned All Mirrors and the main focusing lens – All mirrors were heavily contaminated but were successfully cleaned. The main focusing lens was also heavily contaminated but could also be cleaned
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Inspect, Clean and tension belts
- Inspected and Clean laser nozzle
- Cleaned Rear Exhaust outlet
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Inspected Interlocks and Chiller Alarms
- Inspected and checked electrics, sensors and switches
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
At the conclusion of all the normal service items, the laser power was measured from the exit aperture of the laser nozzle. The laser power was shown to be reading 71.4W @75% power, No milliammeter available to confirm proper power requirements. Even tho the laser was from 2018, the output power was still good, so it was advised that the customer budget for a new laser tube at the next scheduled service.

The BOFA AD1000 extractor was also checked and the units speed was reduced as it was running too fast, meaning that the filters were being used up too prematurely for no viable benefit.

Several of the customer jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function and the customer was happy with the results produced.
Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
