Laser Machine Service near Hammersmith, on a Technology Supplies 4060 60W – Hammersmith Academy
The visit to our long time customer Hammersmith Academy was because our customers annual laser service on their Thinklaser Lightblade 4060 60 watt flatbed laser machine was due, which we would recommend for all our customers. This service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser marker service visit includes: –
Upon arrival at Hammersmith Academy the flatbed machine was visually inspected. There was a significant amount of debris present in and around the work area and on the bed. The water cooling system looked heavily contaminated as the cooling water flowing through the laser tube appeared ‘black’. The laser tube power was tested at the exit aperture of the nozzle it was shown to be 58.2 watts @22mA @ 81% power.

The chiller cooling water was the first area to be serviced. The unit was drained and flushed multiple times to remove the ‘black’ from inside the chiller, laser tube and connecting pipes.
In an attempt to remove more of the contamination the chiller unit was filled with 9 litres of ordinary water and a small amount of hydrochloride acid was added to the tank. This was left to run for an hour and then the unit was drained and flushed again. The unit was then refilled with 9 litres of distilled water. There were still small signs of ‘black’ on the inside of the laser tube, but significantly better than when first inspected.
The remaining service items were carried out with little to no issue raised: –
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Deep Clean of system
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Bed Leveling
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Full Laser Alignment Check
- Laser Tube Health Check
After all the service items were completed the laser power was tested at the exit aperture to the laser nozzle. This was shown to be measuring 69.5w @22mA @ 81% power.
During final testing of the customers Technology Supplies 4060 machine, it was noted that a slight odour of acrylic was coming from the exhaust port of the BOFA Nano plus. Filters were checked and last replaced November 2024. This would indicate that the active carbon in the combined main filter was depleted. It was recommended that if more Acrylic was going to be cut then the main filter would need to be replaced.
During final inspection of the laser machine, there were still signs of the discolouration within the laser tube. It was recommended that at the next service, that it would be best planned for a laser tube replacement. As their current laser tube is approaching 7 years old.
