Laser Machine Service near Frome, 2 x Universal Laser Systems – Frome Hardware
A visit to a new customer, Frome Hardware was required as the customer had requested a service on their 2 x Universal laser systems and to inspect the associated extraction units. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –
Upon arrival at Frome Hardware the flatbed machines was visually inspected.
The 2 x universal flatbed machines were a X2-660 unit and a Versa unit. Both units were in visually good order.
X2-660 Universal Laser System
The X2-660 machine was given an internal clean of the bed and the extraction ports within the lasers working area.
The mirrors and the main focusing lens were all inspected and cleaned. The focusing lens was not secured properly into the housing due to an adhesive failure. The customer had a replacement lens and this was installed into the machine. Although it was noted that this lens had a visible scratch/mark on the outer surface. The customer then ordered a replacement lens from the manufacturer.
The unit was reassembled and the rest of the service was carried out. This included the following items: –
- Inspected, cleaned and oiled linear bearings
- Inspected Electronics Inspection
- Inspected and tested Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Inspected and tested all sensors
- Cleaned the extractor grill
Upon inspecting the safety interlocks the customer reported that they were having to use separate magnets to get the machine to operate correctly.
The magnetic interlocks was inspected and found to be working correctly, so it was advised to the customer to use magnetic strips, as this can improve engagement and avoid hystersis of the interlock.
The beam alignment was checked and was found to be good. The laser power was measured from the exit of the laser nozzle and was shown to be 62w @100% power.
The service visit now moved onto the Versa Universal laser system: –

The mirrors and the main focusing lens were all inspected and cleaned. The focusing lens had a visible scratch/mark on the outer surface. The customer then ordered a replacement lens from the manufacturer. Mirror 2 was contaminated but this was able to be cleaned, and was placed back into the system
The exit aperture of the laser was also inspected as was found to be contaminated, this required a thorough clean, but was able to be cleaned properly
The unit was reassembled and the rest of the service was carried out. This included the following items: –
- Inspected, cleaned and oiled linear bearings
- Inspected Electronics Inspection
- Inspected and tested Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Inspected and tested all sensors
- Cleaned the extractor grill
The beam alignment was checked and was found to be good. The laser power was measured from the exit of the laser nozzle and was shown to be 32w @100% power.
