Laser Machine Service near Finchley, on a Technology Supplies 3040 40W – Mill Hill International
The visit to our customer Mill Hill International School was for a service on their Technology Supplies 3040 40 watt flatbed laser marker and to upgrade the unit to a 60 watt laser tube . This service and upgrade was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser marker service visit includes: –

Upon arrival at Mill Hill International School the engineer did an initial visible check on the machine. The only item visibly an issue was that the LED lighting strip was occasionally flickering. This was bought upto with the customer and a quotation was issues for a replacement.
The initial inspection completed the engineer tested the laser power emitting from the main nozzle assembly with the current 40 watt tube. This was measured at 20w @29mA 91%. The old 40 watt Tongli laser tube was taken out and a new SPT 60 watt laser was installed. Due to the overall length difference between a 40 watt tube and a 60 watt tube a laser tube extension cover was installed at the side of the machine to ensure that the machine safety was not compromised.
Following on from the tube replacement the rest of the service items were carried out: –
- Clean mirrors and lens
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Electrical Inspection
Whilst inspecting the interlocks, sensors and limit switches, the upper Z-limit sensor was found to be damaged. This was replaced with a new sensor and tested.
The final item for the flatbed laser machine was to align the newly installed 60 watt SPT laser tube. The laser was aligned to the laser head and was checked for alignment in all 4 corners of the marking bed and as a final check, in the centre of the marking field. The laser power was measured from the laser head assembly and was showing a power of 76w @22mA 85%
The engineer checked the customers extraction system as whilst running some of the customers jobs as the final customer demonstration and overall functionality check, the engineer noticed that there was a slight smell coming from the extraction unit. The Purex 300i filters were dated 2022, so it was advised that they would need replacing soon to avoid the smell from getting worse.
