Laser Machine Service near Dudley, Thinklaser Lightscribe 50 watts – Midland Tool and Design
A visit to a customer, Midland Tool and Design was required as the customer had informed us that there had been an issue with the door opening mechanism and they also requested the laser machine service be carried out, which we would recommend for all our customers on all makes and models. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The service visit included: –
Thinklaser Lightscribe 50 watt
Upon arrival at Midland Tool and Design the desktop machine was visually inspected. The customer had fitted temporary hinges to the door to enable work to be continued within the machine. Theses were removed and new stainless steel hinges were fitted. Otherwise the machine was in good condition.
The service of the machine was then started. It was initially found that one of the two emission light was not functioning. The rear of the light was testing for the correct voltage and this was shown to be available. This meant that the light itself had gone. This was replaced with a new LED light source.

We often get asked why we have emission lights and in particular why we have two emission lights. The answer is both for safety and redundancy.
- Safety
- The initial reason for the emission lights is to inform the operator that the laser is active and there is a potential for laser emission.
- Redundendacy
- Due to this being a safety aspect to the machine and the importance of the information to the operator there are two emission lights for the exact reason above. If there was only one emission light visible on the machine and the light itself failed, then there would be no information to the operator and could potentially be dangerous. So having the second light not only informs the operator that the laser is active but also the fact that the other light is faulty.
The rest of the laser service items were carried out with no issues: –
- Inspect and Clean all Lens and Optics
- Inspect and Test all Sensors, E-stops and Switches
- Inspect all Electricals Items
- Cleaned fan filters
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The customer also requested some training on the certain aspects of the software, so that the customer could utilise the software feature of serialisation on the machine. The service of the laser machine was now completed and the customer files were tested on the machine. The customer was happy with the service.

Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
