Laser Machine Service near Christchurch, on a HPC LaserScript 6040 & a Thinklaser Lightblade 1290 – Highcliffe School
A visit to our long standing customer, Highcliffe School was required as the customer was requiring a service on both of their laser machines, as the customer was unable to cut through the material that they regular process on both of their machines. We recommend a yearly service for all our customer to keep their machines running at peak performance. The laser service was conducted by our highly experience service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
HPC LaserScript 6040 60 watt
Upon arrival at Highcliffe School, the HPC Laserscript machine was visually inspected. Following the customer comments prior to the visit regarding the inability for the laser to cut through material some initial checks were carried out on the HPC laser head. It was noted that the nozzle was very loose. This was tightened and the laser was initially tested at the exit aperture of the nozzle. The laser power was shown to be reading 40w @100%, as there are no milliammeters on these machines, it is difficult to tell if the laser is being overdriven.
The rest of the main service items of any of our service visits were then carried out, as this enables us to review all aspects of the machine and will show up any issues during these checks: –
- Checked all optics – Cleaned all mirrors, main focusing lens and nozzle
- Inspect and Hoovered out the laser chamber and bed area
- Inspect, Drain and Refill Chiller cooling circuit, cleaned fan filter
- Checked Electrics, Sensors and Switches
- Checked and cleaned linear rails, bearing and belts. – Tightened Y Belts slightly
- Check Bed Level
- Checked Laser Beam Alignment – adjusted slightly
- Safety Interlocks and E-stops Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
After the completion of the service items the laser power was measured again at the exit aperture of the nozzle. The laser power was now reading 65.4w @75% power.

Thinklaser Lightblade 6090 80 watt
Following on was the laser service of our own Lightblade laser machine, this was visually inspected. Following the customer comments prior to the visit regarding the inability for the laser to cut through material some initial checks were carried out on the laser head. It was noted that the autofocus nib was loose and not in the correct position and that the nozzle assembly was not secure. This was adjusted and positioned correctly. The laser beam was checked and all was correct.
- Inspect, Drain and Refill Chiller cooling circuit
- Checked Electrics, Sensors and Switches
- Checked and cleaned linear rails, bearing and belts
- Check Bed Level – adjusted as was 2mm off on the left side
- Checked Laser Beam Alignment
- Safety Interlocks and E-stops Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
After the completion of the service items the laser power was measured again at the exit aperture of the nozzle. The laser power was now reading 68.3w @85% 25mA power. The power was a little low but discussed with the customer and they felt it was good for the materials that they were cutting and would look to renew at the next service.

Check for debris or dust on the mirrors and lenses.
Ensure that the cutting bed is level across the entire work area.
How do I stop the laser from cutting unevenly?
Inspect and clean the optical components (mirrors and lenses).
Check that the work bed is level; an uneven bed will affect cutting depth.
Ensure the material is flat and secured in place on the bed.
How to stop the laser head dragging on Material
Ensure that the material is flat and not bowed or warped.
Check the height adjustment of the laser head and set the correct z-axis distance.
Verify that the workpiece is secured properly on the bed.
