Laser Machine Service near Bedford, on a 1290 80 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Bedford Free School
A visit to a new customer, Bedford Free School was required as the customer had requested a service of their HPC laserscript machine. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –
Upon arrival at Bedford Free School the machine was visually inspected. The laser machine had some minor water ingress from a leak in the roof of the building, but it was not interfering with the machines operation as it had happened a while ago.
As the service was being started Gavin couldn’t get the laser to fire to do a laser power test. This was found to be an issue with the chiller flow circuit. The ‘chiller’ on this machine was merely a bucket of water with a pipe running through it. The flow through the pipework was so poor that it couldn’t disperse an air bubble with the tubing and therefore not close the electrical circuit to allow the laser to fire. It was recommended to replace the bucket with a CW 5200 chiller unit. To enable the service to continue, the chiller was turned off and reseated, then restarted to allow the air bubble to be removed
The laser power was measured from the nozzle and was shown to be 80w @100% power. The service items below were carried out: –
- Inspect and Clean all Mirrors and Lens
- Nozzle Inspection & Clean
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The lens was contaminated with a coating of dust, but this was cleaned.
The laser was re-aligned and the laser power was measure again. The laser power was shown to be 100w @100%. We don’t recommend going over a power of about 70%. As you will get more power from the laser tube, but you will also reduce the lifespan of your laser tube.
The service moved onto the extraction system. The extraction system combined with this machine was a Bofa AD Oracle, which is undersized for this machine size. This was shown by the unit taking a long time to remove the fumes from the laser machine after the job had finished. The extraction unit was being run on full power to try and clear the fumes quicker, but this only serves to reduce the filter life of the unit. The pipework was checked and the extraction outlet from the laser machine was cleaned.
As can be seen, the extraction outlet was not overly clogged with debris. It was recommended to the customer to change the filters in the extraction unit as the Bofa unit was displaying the filter as 75% full and displaying a warning light.
Several of the customer jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function and the customer was happy with the results produced.
