Laser Machine Service near Battersea, on a 6090 60 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Thames Christian School
A visit to a new customer, Thames Christian School was requested by the customer as their HPC laser machine was in need of a service. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser visit included: –
Upon arrival at Thames Christian School the machine was visually inspected. It was noted that the machine was in very good condition and well maintained.
During the initial inspection it was noted that the extraction unit was being powered directly from an auxiliary outlet on the laser.
Due to the electrical load and start-up current of the extractor, it was recommended that the suitability and rating of this arrangement be reviewed and that, where appropriate, the extraction system be supplied from a correctly rated dedicated electrical supply.
Any revised arrangement should ensure that extraction is operating whenever the laser is processing material.
The service on the HPC LaserScript machine was then started: –
The main focusing lens was inspected and cleaned. There was a small mark on the surface of the focusing lens, but this should not effect the cutting or engraving performance. The nozzle and lens assemble was cleaned whilst reinserting the main focusing lens.
During inspection of the CW-5200 chiller, the manufacturer’s identification plate was found to specify R22 refrigerant. The customer advised that the chiller had been supplied with the laser system in 2022.
R22 is an HCFC ozone-depleting refrigerant which has been subject to strict phase-out controls for many years. Virgin R22 could no longer be used for servicing refrigeration equipment from 2010, and from 1 January 2015 recycled or reclaimed R22 could no longer be used for servicing either.
Existing equipment containing R22 may continue to operate provided that no servicing or maintenance involving the refrigerant circuit is required.
At end of life, any R22 refrigerant must be appropriately recovered by suitably qualified personnel and handled through an authorised waste route.
The customer was informed of the issue and advised to contact the original supplier regarding the specification of the chiller.
Thinklaser did not open or undertake any work on the refrigeration circuit during this visit and has not independently verified the refrigerant contained within the unit; our observation relates to the manufacturer’s identification plate.

No work was undertaken on the refrigeration circuit of this unit during this service visit. The chillers water had recently been replaced and the filters were cleaned.
The rest of the machine was then checked over and the following items were carried out with no issues
- Inspect and Clean All Mirrors
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Electrical Inspection and Clean
- Check Beam Alignment
- Check Bed Level
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The laser power was tested at the exit aperture of the laser nozzle. It was shown to be reading 77.4w @22mA 80% power.
The extraction system was inspected. The extraction port at the rear of the machine was cleaned. The extraction units filters were inspected and found to have just been replaced and still in good condition.

A number of jobs were then run on the machine and all was shown to be working as the customer expects. This concluded the laser service

Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I improve Inconsistent Cutting Depth?
Verify that the laser head is correctly focused for the material’s thickness
Check for debris or dust on the mirrors and lenses.
Ensure that the cutting bed is level across the entire work area.
How do I stop the laser from cutting unevenly?
Inspect and clean the optical components (mirrors and lenses).
Check that the work bed is level; an uneven bed will affect cutting depth.
Ensure the material is flat and secured in place on the bed.
How to stop the laser head dragging on Material
Ensure that the material is flat and not bowed or warped.
Check the height adjustment of the laser head and set the correct z-axis distance.
Verify that the workpiece is secured properly on the bed.
