Laser Machine Service near Banbury, Omtech 600 x 400mm 50 watts – Chenderit School
A visit to our new customer, Chenderit School was requested as the customer was having some issues with the engraving on the unit, as well as wishing to have their Omtech laser machine, kept in tip top condition and have it’s annual service. The laser service was conducted by our expert service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’.

Upon arrival at Chenderit School the Omtech laser machine was visually inspected. The machine was located in an area where was a significant amount of dust, in and around the area.

The engineer had an initial discussion with the Teachers and the DT Technician and found that the issue that the school was having with their engraving on their laser machine, was that the engraving had been setup to engrave at a 45-degree angle. This can be engraved like this, but it will produce distortion in the engraving as both axis will need to be moving at the same time and the same speed. Whereby marking at 0-degrees, means that only the light X-axis is used. This was demonstrated to the customer within LIghtburn on how to setup and run correctly.
The laser service was started by checking and cleaning all the mirrors and the main focusing lens within the nozzle assembly. The mirrors were heavily contaminated with dust, however were successfully cleaned. The main focusing lens was also found to be contaminated but was also cleaned.



The laser nozzle was cleaned. The beam alignment was checked and was found to good.
The following items were carried out on the service of the laser machine without many issues: –
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Leveling
- Inspected, Drained and Refilled Chiller system. Clean Air Filters
- Checked Electronics, Switches, Sensors and E-stop
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The laser power was tested at the exit aperture of the laser nozzle and shown to be 50.2w @85% power.
The customer had a small inline fan fitted as the extraction. The 150mm ducting ran diectly upward through the ceiling. It was suspected that the inline fan is not powerful enough to expel the heavier particles, and effectively causing them to fall back down the ducting and escape back into the room.

However halfway through the final testing the customer switched on the main industiral system. Which noticeably improved the airflow.
