Laser Machine Repair near Worthing, CTR TMX12 120w – Northbrook College
A visit to a customer, Northbrook College was required as the customer had requested a visit to investigate and repair the Y- Axis on their laser flatbed machine was not moving and there was visible wear on the belts of that axis. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The repair visit included: –
CTR TMX12 120 watt
Upon arrival at Northbrook College the flatbed machine was visually inspected. The Y-Axis was initially inspected and it could only be moved manually a couple of inches back and forth. On further inspection of the Y-Axis belts it was found that on the right hand side belt, at the rear of the machine the belt itself was riding over the outer edge of the gear as well as the outer edge of the belt tensioners. This was causing the belt to be damaged, frayed and in the areas of the belt produce bald spots.

The machine itself was only 2 years old and the controller confirmed that the customer had only run circa 1400 jobs in that time. The belts that are used in these CTR systems are only 9.4mm wide, our standard belts are 14.84mm wide. So a quick turn around for the customer was not possible in this instance. However with CTR no longer trading it would be difficult to find a solution for the customer.
However we managed to source the same size belt for the customer from an OEM manufacturer. The belts that had been used were more for desktop 3D printers than industrial laser machines. The potential cause of this damage can be potential put down to 2 potential causes. Firstly that the belts and pulleys were not aligned properly during the manufacturer of the machine, or that during processing the motor had been slipping some teeth, which caused the bald spot, resulting in the belt to wander left and right and causing the belt to ride over the tensioners.
Due to not having the parts that could be fitted into the machine, no more testing could be done on the system.
