Laser Machine Repair near Stansted, on a 1290 80 watt Chinese Machine – Forefront Signs Ltd
A visit to our customer, Forefront Signs was required as the customer had reported that they had a small fire which had caused localised fire damage on their laser machine and some of the components were damaged. The repair was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’.

Before arrival the customer had sent through some photos of the damaged parts, as to ensure that we were aware of all the damaged components. Upon arrival at Forefront Signs the machine was visually inspected and the damaged assessed, Due to the fire damage area being small, most of the damage had been contained to the X-Axis belt, cable chain and the marking head, as can be seen in the below photos: –
All the damaged parts were removed, the cable chain and the X-Axis belt were replaced. One extra item that was damaged was the red diode pointer, the customer informed the engineer that the customer never uses the pointer. So this was removed and the wires safely terminated.
At the start of running some tests it was noted that the wasn’t running smoothly and there was movement in the laser head. This was found to be down to the linear bearing block, this was discussed with the customer and was replaced with a new unit.
All the mirrors were cleaned and the nozzle assembly cleaned. The focus lens could not be removed, as the nozzle assembly had fused due to the fire, it was noted that the lens did look contaminated with a possible crack. Due to the difference in the machine design our current nozzle dimensions were unable to fit this machine assembly. So we would have to provide that separately. For safety reasons all the remaining electrics, sensors, switches, interlocks and E-stop were checked for fit and function.
The laser power was measured in two places, after mirror 3 was recorded at 82.8w @26mA 75%. The power was also measured from the nozzle, this was recorded at 65.5w @26mA 75%. Showing that the contamination and possible crack as explained above, was on the focusing lens, and the whole assembly would need to be replaced.
