Laser Machine Repair near Salisbury on a Just Add Sharks 4060 80 watt – LeeHurst Swan School
The visit to Leehurst Swan School, our customer, was for a repair of their Just Add Shark 4060 flatbed marking machine. The issue had been reported that the laser tube was not firing. This laser repair was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The repair visit included: –
Just Add Sharks 4060 – 80 watt
On arrival the machine was visually inspected. We had been informed previously that the laser was not firing. The laser was tested through the control panel, by attempting to pulse the laser. The laser did not pulse. The laser PSU was then checked and was found to have no lights on it, which normally indicates that it is not working as expected and points to an issue with the laser safety circuit of the machine, the interlock circuit was temporally by-passed and the laser tested fired again. The laser fired as expected. So this indicated that the laser and the laser PSU were in perfect working order.
This then prompted the investigation to move to the safety interlock circuitry. The main door interlock was tested individually and was seen to be working fine. The Just Add Sharks machines have an internal flow switch for the water cooling of the laser tube. This flow switch was tested and shown to be the component at fault. The flow switch was disassembled and all the internals were cleaned. It was then reassembled and tested. However the fault still occurred. The unit would need to be replaced,
Since Just Add Sharks had closed back in 2017, we had to source another flow switch from a different source. This meant that we would need to make another visit.
However whilst on site the rest of the machine was checked over to see if there were any other potential issues. The mirrors and lens needed to be cleaned and the laser needed to be aligned. After the cleaning and the alignment the laser was measured at the nozzle. It was shown to be 60w @21mA 85%, but no other faults or potential issues could be identified.
When the second visit occurred at Leehurst Swan School, the new flow switch was installed and the machine tested. The machine was now working as expected and the customer tested a number of their normal jobs and was happy with the repair.
