Laser Machine Repair near Plaistow, on a 6090 60 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Sign Genius
A visit to a new customer, Sign Genius was requested as the customer had contacted us, with the information that they had just bought the machine second hand and they were not able to get the laser machine to work properly. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The repair visit included: –
Upon arrival at Sign Genius the machine was visually inspected. Even though the laser machine was approximately 7 years old it appeared to be an overall good condition. The machine electrical cabinet was first inspected, it was found that all the components were intact and in good condition.
The inspection then moved onto the laser tube itself. It was noted that with the cooling chiller running. that there was a large quantity of bubbles within the laser tube itself. Upon further inspection it was found that the chiller pipes were back to front. This was switched over, and shown that the water is now flowing in the correct direction and there were no longer any bubbles within the laser tube.
The laser was tested fire and no output was observed. The laser fire input from the controller into the laser power supply was removed and the the system test fired manually from the laser PSU. This time the laser fired successfully. This confirmed that both the laser tube and laser PSU were functioning properly.
The fire signal from the controller was reinstated and the system test fired again. Again no laser output was observed. Upon investigation within the parameters of the controller it was found that a setting had been changed to restrict the pulse duration of the fire button on the controller to 0.0001 seconds. This was changed to continuous output. No when requested through the ‘Fire’ button on the controller the laser did indeed fire.
Now that the laser was firing as expected, further testing could be completed. The alignment was the first item to check on the system, as if this was correct then processing a job should still show that the laser was firing. It was found that the alignment between the first and second mirror was approximately 5 inches out. Which would explain why nothing was seen from the laser head, This could have only happened in transit, when the machine was being moved from Liverpool to Plaistow.
A full realignment of the system was carried out. After the alignment process was completed the laser power was measured from the nozzle, it was shown to be producing 65.2w @75% power. Whilst checking the alignment it was also noted that the controllers control of the gantry was only moving in sections. This is also something that is set within the controller. So this must have been setup with the previous owner of the system, as per the laser pulsing above. This was reset and now moves as expected.
As part of the visit, the customer requested that they be shown key aspects of the laser machine. There was spare time left at the end of the repair to show the customer the important aspects of laser safety, the importance of regular maintenance and what areas to maintain and the general fit and function of the operating and processing with the laser machine.
