Laser Machine Repair near Penryn, on a 4060 60 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Hartwood Timber
A visit to a new customer, Hartwood Timber was requested as the customer had said that the machine was intermittently failing to laser after a controller upgrade, but was now not firing at all. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Phil Harris’. The laser repair visit included: –
Upon arrival at Hartwood Timber the machine was visually inspected. The laser machine was found in a good condition. The controller had indeed been replaced by a third party installer. It was in no way secured to the machine and was left to hang in the area where the controller normally sits. The issue that the customer had was that the machine would sometimes part process a product and then continue with the process but stop firing the laser.
In these old HPC machines, the interlock circuitry is wired through the enable line of the main laser PSU. Although this is a safe way of connecting the interlocks to the laser. Where this method falls over, is the fact the there is no fault finding available for any of the interlocks. So it was known that there was an issue with one of the interlocks, but it was necessary to find out which one it was.
The customer had informed us that when the controller was replaced, some of the internal pipework was also replaced from the laser tube. So the first place that was inspected was the flow switch.
Upon location of the flow switch, it was inspected and found that the wiring inside the connector had become loose.
The pins seemed to have been forced, possibly when reinstating the connector. The connecting running back to the laser PSU were linked out to test the rest of the interlock circuitry. The laser now seemed to fire with out issue.
The connector was attempted to be repaired, but the pins had been bent sufficiently to make a repair unreliable. The customer had purchased a spare flow switch as a precaution, whilst we were in initial discussions about the potential issues. So the laser tube was fully drained and the old flow switch removed, and the new flow switch inserted and reconnected in a more convenient location.
The cooling water circuit was refilled and all bubbles removed from the laser tube before applying power to the LaserScript machine. The laser was pulsed and seemed to now be firing fine. It was requested of the customer to run a few test jobs, which they happily did. All test jobs were run without issue.
