Laser Machine Repair near Oxted – Boxford 6090 80W – Not powering on – Oxted School
The visit to our customer Oxted School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the Boxford 6090 laser marking machine was not powering on. This laser machine repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –

The engineer arrived on site and started the investigation into the faulty machine. The customer had stated that they had managed to switch on the machine previously, but the machine had switched itself off again. The first port of call was to check the mains lead for any damage and to check the fuse. All checked out ok. The mains power is then followed on the main electrical panel to find what components are getting power and then if that piece of equipment is outputting what it should.
In this laser repair visit, the mains power was checked to the input of the 24v PSU 1. This was being feed mains power as expected. However on checking the output, the 24v rail was only reading 0.7v. This is where the issue lay. The 24v PSU was replaced with a new unit, this was mounted in situ and wired into the machine.
The Boxford laser machine now powered on correctly. To check for stability the machine was run through several power on and off cycles. No further issues were found.
This was all completed within the allocated call out time, so the machine was given a health check. All the mirror and the main focusing lens were cleaned. The nozzle was heavily contaminated with residue from the cutting and engraving process. This was cleaned and reattached to the laser head. The linear rails and the bearing we cleaned and lubricated. The DT technician was shown some good maintenance technics for keeping the machine running at optimum performance.
The laser power was checked at the output of the nozzle and was shown to be outputting 82.4 w @75%.
The system was given a full bill of health and several jobs were run on the machine to test. All where upto a good standard. Following the test runs, it was noted that there was a faint smell of acrylic coming from the rear of the extractor exhaust. This is likely due to the active carbon in the main filter being depleted, it was recommended to change these filters.
