A visit to our customer, Sign System (UK) was required as the customer had reported that the laser machine was not cutting anymore. The repair was conducted by our service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’.
Thinklaser Lightblade 1490 100 watt
Upon arrival at Sign System (UK) the machine was visually inspected and the staff were spoken with, to try and ascertain what could have caused the issue. It was disclosed that the machine had been working fine and the the lid had fallen shut on the machine and ever since the machine had not cut properly.
The first issue to correct was to the falling lid. The lid was checked and was found that it was that the piston struts were worn and were only just sufficient power to maintain the door in the open position. New struts were installed.

The second issue was the machine not cutting as it had done so for many months. The tube was checked and was fully functional. The beam alignment was checked and was found to a long way out. This could have been caused by the fallen lid. The beam alignment was adjusted and the power measured from the nozzle at 96w @87% 28mA. Whilst present on site, a combined service visit was carried out which included the following: –
- Mirror Inspection & Clean
- Lens Inspection & Clean
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Leveling
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
As per the last visit, there were no errors or filter showing that they were full on the companies extraction system. However there was a strong smell coming from the exhaust of the extractor, this would be mainly down to the types of materials being laser cut. As cutting lots of Acrylic can be shown to reduce filter life, but not display any ‘Full’ indicators on the extraction unit. It was recommended to replace the main and chemical filter
Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
