Laser Machine Repair near Harlesdon, Boxford BGL460 80 watts – Brownell Ltd
A visit to a new customer, Brownell Limited was requested as the customer had reported that the laser machine was not working correctly. Whilst on site the machine would also be given a health check. The laser repair was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –
Boxford BGL460 80 watt
Upon arrival at Brownell Limited the flatbed machine was visually inspected. The machine was in generally good condition.
The laser tube was checked and was found to be a 60 watt laser tube, whereas the machine label had the machine as a 80 watt machine. The customer had said that the tube was replaced a few years ago. The laser alignment was checked and was found to be our of alignment. The laser power was measured between mirrors 2 and 3. The power was shown to be 67w @ 70%.
The mirrors were all checked and cleaned. The 2.5inch lens in the laser nozzle was upside down, so was replaced the right way up. Mirror 3 was very dirty, but was able to be cleaned. There were some scratch marks on it, but this shown to not affect the performance.


The remaining items of a service were carried out with no issues: –
- Nozzle Inspection & Clean
- Water Cooling Chiller Inspection, Clean, Drain & Refill
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The laser beam was realigned and the laser power was measured at the exit aperture of the laser nozzle. This was shown to be 72w @70%.


The service of the laser machine was now completed and the customer files were tested on the machine. The customer was very happy with the repair and service as can be seen by them leaving a 5* google review.
The customer was using a Purex 400i fume extraction, however it was located upstairs and the resulting long hose run meant that the pull at the laser machine was poor. It was recommended to the customer to either increase the speed of the extraction or better still move the extraction unit as close as possible to the machine.
