Laser Machine Repair near Croydon, on a HPC LaserScript 2030 Machine – Set Works

A visit to a customer, setWorks was required as the customer was having issues with the laser, and it needed to be repaired. The service was conducted by our laser machine service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The repair visit included: –

HPC LaserScript Machine 2030

Upon arrival at setWorks the machine was visually inspected and discussions were had about what issues were showing. The machine would not fire the laser in via either a pulse or whilst processing a job. The engineer was informed that they could pulse the laser via the laser PSU when they had removed the signal block.

Upon investigation it was found that all the cables had been removed from the signal block connector and with no cable ID information it was difficult, but not impossible to determine what wires we from what source. You can use a DVM (digital volt meter) to check for continuity of cables, and therefore determine which cable came from the which pinouts from the controller.

The engineer rewired the signal block connector. This did not resolve the issues, the next port of call was to check all the interlocks, all the normal interlocks were all found to be closed. However on HPC Laserscript lasers, there is a internal flow sensor to ensure that the water is flowing in the correct direction for the laser tubes. This was not allowing the laser to fire. It was found that the ‘Flow’ and ‘Return’ pipes were plumbed in the wrong way. These were switched round and the system was now allowed to fire.

The mirrors and lens were all cleaned and aligned. However it was found that upon homing the unit, that when the unit returned to it’s laser known origin point that the laser was firing. The unit was also firing the laser, when the controller was asked to ‘Frame’ a job. The signal wiring on the controller was checked to the laser PSU, it was found that the LPWM1 (Laser Pulse Width Modulation 1) was wired into TH (Trigger High). This was changed to TL (Trigger Low) on the PSU and L-on1 on the controller. This fixed the issue.

The laser power was measured from mirror 3 and was showing a power of 120w @85% power. The machine was run with a number of the customer test jobs and all was working and the customer was happy with the results.

Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.
