HPC Laser Service near Sevenoaks, on a HPC 1290 150w laser Machine – Masters CNC
A visit to our new customer, Masters CNC was required as the customer had an issue with the HPC laser machine not firing when requested. The customer had said that the HPC machine was cutting then suddenly just stopped. During the initial telephone call the customer advised that the laser was an 80watt laser source therefore a new 80/100watt laser PSU was taken to site as a precaution. This visit was conducted by our highly experienced laser service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
HPC LaserScript Machine 150 watt
Upon arrival at Masters CNC the machine was visually inspected. Due to the customer report of the laser not firing. This was the first thing that was investigated, it was quickly found that the laser was in fact a 150 watt EFR laser source. So the laser PSU was checked for mains voltage. 240v was confirmed. The laser PSU was jumpered so that it was able to fire the laser using the test button. The laser did not fire when the test button was used, so the 80/100 watt laser PSU that was brought to site, was connected up and quickly tested. The laser did now fire, so the issue was diagnosed as a faulty laser PSU.
The engineer then drove back to the office and collected a new 150 laser PSU. This was fitted when arriving back on site. The unit was connected up and test fired. The laser fired so now all was working fine.
Whilst on site the HPC laser machine was given a service as there was still time in the allocated 2 hours slot. The mirrors were all inspected and mirror 1 and 3 were very badly contaminated. However these were able to be cleaned. The main focusing 2 inch lens was also inspected, it was found to be dirty and in upside down, the lens was cleaned and re-instated into the laser tube in the correct orientation.
The following were carried out as with no other issues found: –
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Drained and Refilled Chiller
- Test Beam Alignment
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The laser power was measured at the exit aperture of the laser nozzle. It was shown to be reading 132w @90% power.
The unit also had a BOFA AD500 extraction unit. The filters were checked and were found to have been installed in November 2023 and May 2024. However due to the work being carried out, these were still running smoothly.
Several job were run on the machine to check it’s overall function.
