HPC Laser Service near Rickmansworth – LaserScript 1290 130 watt Machine – Royal Masonic School
A visit to a customer, The Royal Masonic School for Girls was required as the customer had requested an annual service be conducted on their machine. The laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –
Upon arrival at The Royal Masonic School for Girls the machines were visually inspected. There were a number of visual issue with machine these are explained below: –

The customer had mentioned that the chiller unit alarms. They intimated that this normally happens when the room temperature is very high. The room was notably warm and would easily get much hotter in the peak of summer. This meant that the water was hot when the machine was initially turned on.
During inspection of the CW-5200 chiller, the manufacturer’s identification plate was found to specify R22 refrigerant.
R22 is an HCFC ozone-depleting refrigerant which has been subject to strict phase-out controls for many years. Virgin R22 could no longer be used for servicing refrigeration equipment from 2010, and from 1 January 2015 recycled or reclaimed R22 could no longer be used for servicing either.
Existing equipment containing R22 may continue to operate provided that no servicing or maintenance involving the refrigerant circuit is required.
At end of life, any R22 refrigerant must be appropriately recovered by suitably qualified personnel and handled through an authorised waste route.
Thinklaser did not open or undertake any work on the refrigeration circuit during this visit and has not independently verified the refrigerant contained within the unit; our observation relates to the manufacturer’s identification plate.

It was recommended to the customer to replace the chiller unit with a proper S&A CW5200 Chiller Unit. In the meantime the chiller unit was drained and refilled with distilled water and the fan filters were cleaned.
The main focusing lens had a small mark on it’s surface, which could not be fully removed. Upon testing it appeared to not be effecting the cutting or engraving performance. So the customer was advised to keep an eye on the focusing lens and to maybe get a lens in stock in preparation.

The remaining items were carried out as per our normal service visits: –
- Inspect, Clean all mirrors
- Inspect, Clean Nozzle and Red Pointer
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Auto Focus Pen Inspection & Clean
- Honey Comb Bed Inspection & Leveling
- Electronics Inspection
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
Due to the increased size of the 1290 as opposed to the 6040 a large extractor unit is recommended. On this machine the extractor was a Bofa AD 500 iQ. This was not showing any faults or filters that required changing

The machines laser power was tested from the nozzle at the end of the service visit to ensure optimal performance the laser power was shown to be 125w @ 62% power.
The main lid on the machine was noticed to be rubbing on the side of the chassis when in the closed position, this was adjusted to open and close more smoothly and without interference.
Any of the consumable items mentioned above, Lens, Mirrors, Laser tubes, Power supplies are all available and can be bought separately in our online shop.

Verify that the laser head is correctly focused for the material’s thickness
Check for debris or dust on the mirrors and lenses.
Ensure that the cutting bed is level across the entire work area.
How do I stop the laser from cutting unevenly?
Inspect and clean the optical components (mirrors and lenses).
Check that the work bed is level; an uneven bed will affect cutting depth.
Ensure the material is flat and secured in place on the bed.
How to stop the laser head dragging on Material
Ensure that the material is flat and not bowed or warped.
Check the height adjustment of the laser head and set the correct z-axis distance.
Verify that the workpiece is secured properly on the bed.
