HPC Laser Repair near Wimbledon, on a 1290 80 watt HPC LaserScript Machine – Wimbledon High School
A visit to a customer, Wimbledon High School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that the machine was not cutting through the material and the power from the laser appeared low. The laser investigation of the HPC machine was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser repair visit included: –
HPC Laserscript – 1290 80 watt
Upon arrival at Wimbledon High School the machine and the laser tube was visually inspected. The system was test fired to determine the laser tubes beam profile coming from the output lens of the nozzle. The profile of the beam was not a standard pulse pattern for these laser tubes.
It was decided to swap out the laser tube for a new SPT 80w Laser tube. The laser tube was installed and the beam profile tested again. However this produced a similar beam to the original tube. Upon further investigation it was found that the Laser PSU was ‘hissing’ when the laser was being requested to pulse.
The laser PSU was replaced and the laser tube started firing correctly. This demonstrated that it was not an issue with the laser tube, so the customers original laser tube was reinstalled. The laser power was measured at the exit aperture of the nozzle and was shown to be reading 66w @100%.
To try and improve this the optical path was inspected. All the mirror and focusing optics were cleaned and the system alignment was checked. This improved the final output power from the nozzle to 76w. This was discussed with the customer and for the material that the customer was cutting with the laser that their original laser tube would be suitable for the foreseeable future. It was recommended to continue with their yearly laser service visit which for this customer is usually in February/March time at which point the condition of the laser tube could be reassessed and any recommendations could be made at that visit.
Several of the customer jobs were run on the machine to check it’s overall function and the customer was happy with the results produced.
