GCC Laser Service near Surbiton – X252 80W – Shrewsbury House School
The visit to our new customer Shrewsbury House School was requested by the customer as the customer had stated that after running the machine for a while, it would not cut through the material as it should. This laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –

The engineer arrived at Shrewsbury House School and carried out a full inspection of the machine. The first place to start with an issue like this is the mirrors and the main focusing lens. Check that these are clean and not damaged. These mirrors and the lens were all checked and cleaned. It was found that mirror 2 appeared to be slightly damaged and the coating appeared to have been slightly removed when compared with the other 2 mirrors.
The next aspect would be to check the alignment, as if the machine heats up over time, this could cause the alignment to shift, resulting in lose of cut performance.
The laser power was measured from the exit aperture of the nozzle and was shown to be 65.8 watts @100% power 25mA. At the lower power settings, between 12 and 60% it was noted that there was a hissing noise coming from the laser PSU. It was recommended to change the laser PSU, as this issue had been experienced on other machines and when replaced resolved many issues.
The remainder of the service was carried out with the following items found: -.
- Inspect and Clean Nozzle and Auto-focus Pen
- Inspect and Check Laser Tube
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Inspect, Clean and tension belts
- Drained and refilled the chiller unit with distilled water
- Calibrate Bed Level
- Clean Extraction Port
- Inspected Interlocks and Chiller Alarms
- Inspected and checked electrics, sensors and switches
- Safety Interlocks Inspection & Test
The unit had a Bofa Oracle IQ extraction unit. This was inspected and the filters checked. All was in good working order.
The system was given a full bill of health and several jobs were run on the machine to test. All where upto a good standard.
