Boxford Laser Service near Surbiton – 6090 80W – Southborough High School
The visit to our customer Southborough High School was requested by our partner RS Design and Technology as the customer had said that their Boxford 6090 80 watt machine was not cutting through material as it had done so previously. This laser service was conducted by our highly experienced service engineer ‘Gavin Edwards’. The laser service visit included: –

The engineer arrived at Southborough High School and carried out a full inspection of the machine. The laser power was measured from the exit aperture of the nozzle and was shown to be 49.3w @75% power. Finding that the nozzle was heavily contaminated it was removed and the laser power measured again. This time the laser power was measuring 81.3 watts.



The laser nozzle was cleaned and the lens removed. It was also heavily contaminated, this was cleaned but on further inspection, it was found that there was a section of the protective coating missing in the centre of the focusing lens. This would absorb more laser power and therefore not only reduce cutting power, but also laser performance. The focusing lens was replaced with a new 2.5″ lens.


With the new lens in place and all the preceding mirrors cleaned the laser power was measured again at the exit of the laser nozzle. This time the laser power was reading 77.4w @75%
The remainder of the service was carried out with the following items found: -.
- Inspect, Clean and Lubricate all Linear/Guide Rails
- Mirror Inspection & Clean
- Inspect and Check, all electrics Sensors and Switches
- Check E-Stop fit and function.
- Full Laser Alignment Check – Adjusted slightly
- Laser Tube Health Check
- Drained and refilled the chiller unit with distilled water
- Inspect and measure bed level – adjusted as was 3mm out of focus on right hand side
- Check overall machine function by Test Cutting Customer Materials
The laser power was checked at the output of the nozzle using the damaged lens and was shown to be outputting 70 watts @75%. After the replacement 2.5 inch lens was fitted and the laser power was tested again. The power measurement was now 82 watts @75% power.

The system was given a full bill of health and several jobs were run on the machine to test. All where upto a good standard.
